The U.S. Market For Fence, Deck And Rail Products

Average:

Your rating: None

These are uncertain times in the housing and home improvement industry, especially for arenas that may be considered non-essential to consumers, such as fence, deck rail (FDR) products. This all-new SBI report covers the market for residential FDR products made from wood, metal, vinyl, plastic and concrete. While many market studies strive to analyze market sizes and dynamics from the "sell side" perspective by attempting to measure the revenues earned by product and service vendors of materials, this study also focuses strongly on the "buy side" of the market by looking at indicators of demand among builders and consumers. This is key, as the FDR market is so closely tied to residential housing and economic issues affecting buyers.

SBI estimates that the residential FDR market reached a record $11.9 billion in 2006; however, 2007 proved to be a tough year for the industry as homeowners reigned in spending and homebuilders pared back on construction. While there are some factors that may help lessen the blow felt by the housing and economic slump, such as lower interest rates and an unending consumer desire to spend on home improvements and outdoor living, they are not strong enough drivers to cause a turnaround in the near term. The market of fence such as temporary fence, wire mesh, fence manufacturers, steel fence post, wire fence, portable fence is likely to continue to correct downward into 2008, but should begin to pick back up thereafter.

The report further explores economic, housing, consumer and product trends, as well as consumer home improvement activity, distribution channels and the competitive environment affecting domestic, residential FDR product demands. The report also profiles major marketers, along with manufacturer strategies to maximize growth and profitability.

Data were obtained from government sources, trade associations and publications, business journals, company literature, investment reports and interviews with industry stakeholders. In most cases, historical data are provided for 1998 through 2007, with forecast data from 2008 to 2012. Market size statistics are derived from U.S. Department of Commerce and other data sources, and are augmented by SBI estimates. Simmons Market Research Bureau's spring 2007 survey, based on a sample of 24,136 respondents, provides the primary research data on consumer remodeling habits and home improvement expenditures

After a 16% decrease in sales, 2007 proved to be a tough year for the residential FDR market, which settled at $10.1 billion. Nonetheless, a new report from SBI, The U.S.Market for Fence, Deck Rail Products, forecasts that the market will resume its upward trend and reach $11.8 billion by 2012. A four percent growth rate is predicted in 2009, with seven to nine percent continued growth through 2012.

Commodity prices play an especially important role in the FDR industry.Increasing oil prices have impacted the cost of running a business and the cost of goods sold.Lumber prices are at the mercy of the U.S. economy, as is the health of the housing market, which also plays a large part in the FDR industry.

The industry will likely get a boost from an increased interest in home remodeling, which is projected to grow by 62% from 2006 to 2016. Much of the demand for outdoor remodeling work will be driven by affluent households with incomes of $75,000 or more. In addition, there is a higher demand for outdoor living products among "upscale" homeowners.

"As the housing and construction market continue to struggle, green building products have been a bright spot," comments Cathy Minkler, Associate Editor of SBI. "The booming green building market will continue its rapid expansion over the next four years and is expected to double in revenue. The FDR industry has the potential to be on the cutting edge of the green transformation, especially through the use of composite, vinyl and other wood-alternative products that are engineered with added environmental benefits."

Ring-fencing works at Waikato DHB.

Waikato District Health Board's (DHB) decision to ring-fence 78 positions for new graduates appears to be paying off for the new graduates and the board. The board has retained the same number of positions for new graduates this year, despite a major contraction in nurse turnover. While there is no guarantee of permanent positions once the new graduates have completed the nurse-entry-to-practice (NETP) programme, director of nursing and midwifery Sue Hayward says attempts have been made this year to hold vacancies, and for the vacancies to be prioritised for those who have completed the NETP programme.

"This has required a great deal of trust but charge nurses and charge nurse managers have made a real commitment to holding vacancies, and without that commitment, it couldn't have worked," she said. Ninety-four per cent of those who have completed the NETP programme at Waikato DHB want to stay there.

Chair of Nurse Educators in the Tertiary Sector, Kathy Holloway, supports ring-fencing positions for new graduates as one solution to the imbalance between the number of graduates and the number of available jobs.

Using RTA Cabinets Rather Than Expensive Name Brands by Jason Delmar

I have renovated kitchens for about ten years now, but I have only started using RTA kitchen cabinets (ready to assemble) for the last five years. RTA is not a brand name; instead it is a type of cabinet. You might be familiar with big box retail stores like IKEA or Home Depot ? national chain hardware stores. These stores sell similar RTA (ready to assemble) products and some of them appear to be good prices, but unfortunately these RTA products are inferior to RTA products that I have found online. Yes, RTA products (ready to assemble) can be found in many places, but when I renovated my kitchen, I searched online (A Google Search for RTA kitchen cabinets) and found better prices and actually better quality.

I first started by going to several home supply stores. I shopped a few local stores, found assembled cabinets at high prices and moved on to a few national store chains. These stores also had assembled cabinets, but also carried RTA kitchen cabinets (and RTA bathroom vanities). At that point I thought I had found what I was looking for, kitchen cabinets at a lower cost than assembled cabinets. These RTA cabinets looked just like regular cabinets, but also carried about a fifteen percent (15%) less of a cost than the assembled cabinets. I did some further investigation and unfortunately found that these store bought RTA kitchen cabinets contained particle board sides. Yes the fronts of the cabinets appeared to be solid wood faces, but the sides and backs were clearly made of a cheap particle board. At this point, I decided to move onto another store and see what else was out there in regards to a better cabinet without particle board. I did not find anything better, so I went home and did some online research. This was the best renovation move I made and it is eventually where I found the best deal on kitchen cabinets.

There are probably hundreds of RTA kitchen cabinet and RTA bathroom vanity websites, but as with anything the very best rise to the top. When I did a Google search for RTA kitchen cabinets I decided to check out the top three sites on the first page. Note ? I avoided the paid searches at the very top of the page and also the paid searches at the right side of the page. These sites are paying to be at the top of the list and are not the best sites for what you are looking for, in fact some of these sites are not good at all and really should be included with the quality sites that have earned the front page.

When I ran the numbers on the three sites I looked at, I found that the best prices were on the bigger more complete sites. These sites imported cabinets directly and this was the main reason the RTA kitchen cabinet prices were so good. So to sum it up, the best prices and best quality were on the top RTA kitchen cabinet websites. I did some through research and felt confident that I made the best choice with my kitchen cabinets.

Surrey Water Damage Contractors Reveal The Cost Of Flood Repair

Do you have an idea how much water restoration could cost? It depends on a number of variables actually. There are even classifications and types of water damage. If your home has been damaged due to leaks, water bursts or other types of water damage, then you might require the services of restoration contractors. Restoration contractors will charge different amounts depending on the water damage to your home. Factors that have to be considered are: 1) the height of water level, 2) water type, 3) size of affected area, 4) extent of damage, and 5) materials involved.

The height of water level refers to the depth of water damage and the amount of still water that restoration contractors need to extract. So, the higher the water level and the more water needed to be extracted, the higher the home repair cost will be.

Water type can be categorized into three: 1) clean water, 2) grey water, and 3) black water. Clean water is the water that comes from a sanitary source. Clean water can evolve into grey water or black water if left for a certain period of time wherein it may become contaminated. Grey water is contaminated with some chemicals that may cause sickness or discomfort when ingested. It may be a washing machine or dishwasher overflow. If left for a certain period of time and it becomes contaminated, grey water can degrade into black water. Black water is grossly unsanitary and may pose serious health hazards if ingested or infects an open wound. Black water is water from the sewers, overflowing rivers and streams, toilet, and contaminated stagnant water.

The size of the affected area and the extent of damage are self-explanatory. The larger the affected area, the steeper the price the restoration contractors will charge; the bigger the damage, the higher the charge for the home repairs.

The restoration contractors also take into consideration the materials that are involved in the home repair. If your floor is made of wood and fully carpeted, then you might have to pay for higher price. If your floor is made of concrete, then the charge may be lower.

Considering all these factors, we can see why water restoration prices are charged on a case-to-case basis. Be reminded that the IICRC and the RIA recommend procedures and standards on water restoration. Restoration contractors usually follow IICRC guidelines so be sure to check those guidelines out in order to have an estimate of how much you will pay for water restoration.

Meiji Restoration Creates Roots of Modern Japan

Meiji Restoration Leads to Modern JapanThe Meiji Restoration was a major turning point in the history of Japan. Taking place on 3 January 1868, the Bakufu Government was deposed and the Emperor restored as ruler of Japan, although he was only 15 years of age.

In effect the country was taken over by young and low ranking Samurai who were ready for drastic reform. In this respect the Restoration marked the start of a concentrated attempt to modernize the social and political structures of Japan and give a new sense of national self identity.

Reasons for Meiji Restoration in Japan

Some of the many reasons for deposing the Bakufu Government are as follows:

Totalitarian regime,

Criticism of Bakufu growing - as it attempts economic modernisation and tries to shape a unified country with a bureaucracy and a feudal class,

Spread of riots and unrest,

Rising intellectual anti Bakufu feelings,

From early 1800s interest in Western studies increase,

Bakufu begin to persecute people with dangerous thoughts,

Critics stress lack of loyalty to emperor,

Nationalism rises with increasing visits of ships from west,

Bakufu said to be treacherous when agreeing to opening of ports in 1854,

Foreign threats,

Growing anti Bakufu feeling in hans, particularly those directly confronted by what they perceive to be the foreign menace,

Concerns for national security and defences,

Calls for restoration of imperial rule.

Charter Oath of Five Articles, April 1868

The new Government's manifesto was proclaimed by the Emperor in April 1868. The changes announced by the Meiji Government were wide and marked a dramatic alteration to Japanese society as follows:

Office of Shinto worship to be placed above all Ministries,

Assemblies to decide everthing by public discussion,

Abolition of all caste society, with people free to pursue any vocation or trade,

People allowed to travel freely and to live where they wish,

Amalgamation of Buddhism and Shintoism stopped,

All evil customs of the past to be broken off,

Commitment to gathering knowledge and learning from all over the World.

Effects of Charter Oath of Japan

Certainly one of the major turnabouts after the Meiji Restoration was that the new leaders became ardent supporters of Western culture and industry. Some of the effects of the new Charter Oath of Five Articles are as follows:

Persecution of Buddhists and Christians,

Emperor is strong value symbol,

Originally highly critical of Western civilization and incursions into Japan, once the revolution is over the Meiji leaders suddenly become ardent Western admirers.

Symbols of the Westernization of Japan

Typical symbols of Japan's westernization were:

Wearing of Western clothes,

Some Japanese begin to eat beef,

Building of Western style houses and mansions,

Construction of model factories,

In 1873 a two year mission from Western countries returns to Japan.

Finally, with the creation of the new regime it was possible for all Japanese to work towards the modernization of the country, adopting the slogan of "Civilisation and Enlightenment" as their mantra.

What are the Special Features of Kitchen Cabinets?

Aside from appliances, kitchen cabinets are considered a staple in any kitchen. Homeowners can choose among different styles of premade cabinets or they can request for a cabinet with special features. Below is a short list of special features perfect for kitchen remodeling projects.

Customized Doors and Trim Depending on their taste and over all style of the kitchen, homeowners can choose to have kitchen cabinets with doors and trims designed to complement the overall cabinet design. Doors can be made from other materials as long as they offer the same quality. When it comes to trim, you can choose among different types of finishes to revamp the exterior of the cabinets.

Adjustable Shelves Make your kitchen cabinets versatile by installing adjustable shelves. These shelves allow homeowners to reposition the interior structure of the cabinets to suit their needs. Adjustable shelves also give the cabinet a new look, making your guests think you have purchased a new one. Shelves that can be lowered are ideal for smaller items, while those shelves with higher ceiling are often used for storing pans and large boxes.

Lazy Susan Shelves If rotating the interior of your kitchen cabinet works best for your needs, you may opt for lazy Susan shelves. This special feature allows the interior shelves to rotate around an axle; items at the back of the cabinet can be easily reached. Lazy Susans can be constructed in single layer or tiered, depending on the overall design of the cabinet. Ideal for condiments and small kitchen utensils, it has been a popular feature of cabinets used in kitchen remodeling Cape Cod contractors have to offer.

Deep Drawers Homeowners who want to have a clutter-free kitchen may choose to install deep drawers during Cape Cod renovation. These drawers offer additional space for larger items such as boxes and appliances that are rarely used. Unlike their shallow counterparts, deep drawers are also easier to use as they are less likely to get stuck and can be easily opened.

Specialty Cabinets As the name suggests, specialty cabinets are used to store only a specific type of item such as cleaning tools. These cabinets are much like the others when it comes to appearance, but are usually designed to fit under the sink. Specialty cabinets are also wider and can accommodate larger items such as mop, broom, vacuum cleaner, dust pan, and others. A typical kitchen remodeling Cape Cod contractors have to offer may include installation of specialty cabinets upon the request of the homeowner.
